Café La Fontaine is, above all, the realization of a dream: the dream of a coffee lover from a family where coffee culture has been passed down through generations. Here, we want to keep alive a simple vision of coffee: respecting the product, preserving traditions, and allowing everyone to enjoy it in their own way.
We want to welcome each person with the same joy with which we welcome our own family into our garden on a beautiful summer day.
At Café La Fontaine, we offer traditional recipes prepared with Italian espresso machines, such as espresso, cappuccino, and latte. These are beverages that have been enjoyed for generations and continue to be a part of our daily lives. Our roasting process favors darker profiles, where acidity doesn't dominate and where the bitterness and aromas of the coffee can fully express themselves. This preference is deeply connected to our Latin American roots and our long-standing tradition of enjoying coffee. We don't believe there's only one right way to drink coffee. Black, with milk, sweet, or prepared in any other way: the important thing is to be able to enjoy it according to your own tastes. This philosophy also aligns with the vision of Anthony Bourdain, who questioned the idea that there's only one right way to consume a product. At Café La Fontaine, we simply want to offer quality coffee and let each person make it their own special moment.
Our beans come from Café Grain d'Or, a family-run roastery that is also behind this space. For three generations and with over 25 years of experience, this family has worked with coffees from Guatemala, among other places, which are roasted every week right here in Montreal. This continuity, this knowledge, and this relationship with the product represent values that we also want to convey through our coffee. Café La Fontaine is a neighborhood café with Hispanic, Italian, and, of course, Montreal roots. This rich cultural heritage is naturally reflected in our cuisine. The founders of this space are a couple with Mexican, Salvadoran, and Italian roots, and they created a menu that reflects their own story: an Italian panini might be found alongside a pupusa or tortilla soup, accompanied by hot chocolate, espresso, or a latte. For us, cuisine, like coffee, is a heritage worth passing on.
Our space is also a place for creation and gathering. Over the past few years, we've hosted painting and photography exhibitions, sculptures, film screenings, concerts, plays, and book launches. Here you can come for a coffee, a meal, discover a work of art, listen to music, celebrate a birthday, or simply share a moment with your family.
If there's one word that best defines Café La Fontaine, it's *conviviality*. We want to create a tranquil, warm, and welcoming space, a hidden gem where people can disconnect from the fast pace of the street and take the time to enjoy the present moment. Our customers have even described us as a little hidden pearl, a place where they can relax from the moment they walk through our doors. Our vision is to become a go-to spot for lovers of traditional coffee, unpretentious and without trying to impose a single way of doing things. Whether you prefer a ristretto or an Americano, hot sauce or not, painting, sculpture, music, or simply good conversation, you're welcome here.
